The other twin would have one hell of a time trying to live a double life and an even harder time trying to register at JWD. But the WTBS twin would need another witness in order to have the other brought before the elders.

Congratulations Blondie. You've managed to be a regular and beloved poster on this board. Too bad I'm too lazy to post that many posts. I have a hard time thinking of something to say for two posts.

Witnesses and alcoholism
by Grace inmy jw husband has made me promise to let him die rather than approve a blood transfusion because of bible doctrine; however, the same bible speaks against alcoholism and drunkeness and yet he continues to drink and sometimes gets absolutely smashed.. last night we were at a non-jw staff party for my place of employment, and he lost any shred of dignity through his heavy drinking.
we got home at 3 a.m. and he jumped out of bed at 8:20 and said, "i have to get to book study; i'm reading today.
(it behooves me how he can do this time and again without even taking so much as an asparin!).

"Last night we were at a non-JW staff party for my place of employment, and he lost any shred of dignity through his heavy drinking."
So he is associating with "worldly people" and getting wasted. In spite of this, he insists on obeying the most arbitrary and dangerous doctrines the WTBS has to offer.

What Silly Things Do JWs Woo & Ahhh Over?
by minimus inwitnesses are a special breed.
did you ever see how excited they get when they are driving to a convention and spot a fellow jw?
they get so excited!

When a governing body member comes to give a talk at the convention. The room is so silent and every body is so focused on what this guy is saying that you can hear a pin drop. Then this old guy gives another dull, familiar talk and every body is in awe afterwards.

"He's on some sort of mission against anti-depressants like paxil and zoloft and he's totally against psychologists for some reason."
The reason for this is because Scientology has always been against psychiatry since the 60's when it was concieved by Hubbard. There was alot of people and organizations who were against psychiatry in those days. From what I've read, many people argued against psychiatry from a leftist/libertarian ideology, while Scientologists claim that psychiatry is "spiritually hazardous." Tom Cruise is a Scientologist because he believes it helped him with dyslexia (spelling?). Scientologists have to spend tons of cash in order to perform rituals in order to have better spiritual health. All of their beliefs are these convoluted concepts described with pseudo-scientific language.

Here's my position. I don't think there are any good arguments for either theism or atheism, so I must not accept either of them and be agnostic. From what I have observed, it seems that people usually don't become either theists or atheists because of any argument, but for personal reasons. When I see people arguing about such a complicated issue online, I don't see much argumentation but instead a clash of conflicting intuitions and some name-calling now and then. Here's a link to an essay by the philosopher Graham Oppy that more or less reflects my stance on the issue and he better describes this position than I ever could:

"Other boys I see are dating 'worldly' girls, holding hands, kissing, driving loads of 'worldly' kids around in their cars (elders son)."
Sadly, this didn't describe me when I was in school. I was fearful of the thought of even attempting to have a relationship with a worldy girl. I even avoided making friends with anybody worldly, not because I thought it was wrong to have a girlfriend or regular friends, but I dreaded the thought of being discovered and exposed for lliving a double life. As a result, my days in high school were lonely and miserable. I had no friends, even though I had mere "associates" that I chatted with now and then.
Then there were the times when people at the hall commented on how "upright" I was for not living a double life. The only reason I didn't have a double life was because I didn't have a life to begin with. Outwardly I was the perfect witness, but inside I was lonely, cynical, faithless, and despondent.

Notice everybody that the society has made claim to another "biblical prophecy." They have claimed that the UN will be the 8th world power. So, that means America would have to fall to the UN, perhaps like how the Babylonians (spelled right?) fell to the Medes and Persians. That would be remarkable, since the UN doesn't have a standing army, is unable to enforce any policies, and was never meant to be a government at all! What would they say if the UN fell and the Anglo-American bloc was still standing?
Not only is the UN supposed to replace America, but it has to get rid of all other religions except for the witnesses. And yes, all of the middle east really gives a shit what the UN says, so they will all do away with this Islam stuff and embrace the UN's atheist government. And lets wait for the next Presidents of the USA, Russia, and China give all their power to the UN. Lets wait for all three branches of the US government to suddenly give the UN ownership to the UN. If you think social security reform caused controversey, wait until you hear about the US suddenly deciding to give itself to the UN. Imagine a small council like the UN trying to control Russia and China at the same time. China, one of the most opressive governments on earth are going to hand over their nuclear weapons and manpower to the UN. I'm sure the governing body is holding their breaths until that happens (at least I hope they are).
They've been making these claims about the UN since before I was born. It is now 2005. You would think that they would have done a little more reasearch about the UN, after all, they had a 10 year fling with them once. Talk about stuborness. Could they at least find a more interesting lie to tell the rank and file?

Do you have more faith
by Honesty inin jesus, the bible, god's promises since you left the jw's?

I never had really any faith to begin with. I was always doubting, always skeptical and uncertain. Maybe sometime in the future I'll have faith in something or maybe not. For now, I don't.

For me, love is probably going to be like death and sex. Once in a lifetime. (I stole that joke from Woody Allen. Shame on me.)
